What amenities does the neighborhood have?

We have a neighborhood playground with pavilion (two picnic tables).

A new amenity for 2017!  The HOA Board of Directors has entered a partnership with Matthews Tennis & Swim Club to provide a Pool-only Membership to all residents/HOA Members in good standing, this thru existing HOA Dues.  To take advantage of the amenity, residents/homeowners must complete a registration form and submit to the MatthewsGroveHOA@gmail.com for review & approval before membership can be used.

How does the HOA Board engage with its members?

We conduct no less than quarterly HOA Meetings where all members are invited to participate as well as multiple neighborhood events through the year.  Some past events include:

  • Neighborhood Yard/Garage Sales;
  • Easter Egg Hunt;
  • Neighborhood Beautification Day;
  • Seasonal (Spring, Summer, &/or Fall) Block Party;
  • Christmas Party.

We also have Yard of the Month awards.

As for communications, the Board utilizes traditional-style communication boards at the exits (to McKee Road) of both Carrington Forest Lane and Savannah Hills Drive.  Some items are also posted to the HOA's public-facing Facebook page.

However, for more sensitive neighborhood-only communications (Newsletters, neighborhood updates, meetings), all residents are encouraged to subscribe to our email communications and/or to join our HOA Member (Closed) Groups on Facebook and NextDoor.com.  The HOA Board Members are always open to new & improved ways of communication, so let us know if you have a suggestion!

Why is parking such a hot topic?

Firstly, it might be good to understand the City of Charlotte's ordinances as pretty much all of our parking standards are derived from or mirror theirs.

After that, it is a matter of safety, plain & simple.  Anyone can tell that our streets are not very wide, as such, ANY time cars are parked on opposite sides of the street within close proximity of each other, they present a navigational delay for any public services traveling the street.

How do I care for my Bermuda Yard?

See our post here.  If you prefer to have someone else care for your yard, there are a few vendors in the area proficient at maintaining Bermuda lawns.  Give us a shout if you're having trouble finding one.  Here is 13 Things You Should Never Do To Your Lawn from The Family Handyman

Who's responsible for maintaining the space between the sidewalk and street and/or the buffer area between my back yard & my neighbor's yard?

City Right of Way in front of my house

These areas are formally the City of Charlotte's Right of Ways and maintenance duties are the responsibility of the abutting homeowner - read more about the City Codes Related to Right of Way Maintenance as found on the CharlotteNC.gov web site.  It is also a violation to park on these areas.  These areas are subject to the same standards as your landscape as outlined in the HOA ByLaws and Rules & Regulations.

What Day is garbage & recycling picked up?

Matthews Grove neighborhood is on a Tuesday schedule for garbage, Yard Waste, Bulky Items and Recycling (every other Tuesday).  Please check the Mecklenburg GeoPortal for current schedule information and Charlotte Solid Waste Services for rules on preparation for pickup.

Are there special guidelines for the trees in our front yards?

Yes, once again, the HOA follows City of Charlotte Ordinances for this.  In a nutshell, we must have a tree there with selection from the prescribed types on the CoC site.  You can find more information on this in the City's Code of Ordinances for Trees, especially Section 21-62.
